N°19

N°19

This work plays with the boundary between what we see and what is actually there. On an apparently flat surface, fields of colour are painted at different angles, causing the eye to perceive a spatial construction created purely through perspective.

The different shades of green reinforce the illusion of light, shadow and volume. The white plane at the centre creates depth, making the painted form appear to rise and detach itself from the surface.

When the work is viewed from the side, the experience changes. The planes that suggest depth when seen from the front now acquire a real physical thickness. The painted illusion gives way to actual three-dimensional space.

A disorienting play of colour, perspective and optical illusion that continually challenges the eye.
